Oar-some Challenge
26 April 2023
2 Sisters Food Group rowing crew will be taking on the Co-op Windermere Row for GroceryAid to raise much needed funds.
An intrepid crew of charity fund-raisers from one of the UK’s biggest food manufacturers are gearing up for an ‘oarsome’ performance as they take on a 10-mile rowing challenge in the Lake District.
Matt Baines, Business Unit Director, Esther Ingle, Commercial Controller, and Simon Firth, Senior Category Manager, along with a team member from the Co-op, will be strapping on their sturdy gloves ready to row across Lake Windermere on 4th May.
They’ll be doing it all in support of GroceryAid, the Grocery Industry charity, to spread awareness about the help and services they offer to Grocery colleagues.
Last year, GroceryAid saw a 61 per cent spike in incidences of support, including traffic to its website and applications for grants – a trend expected to continue this year.
Matt Baines said: “My training has been going well and I feel a lot fitter than when I first started, so hopefully I have done enough to play my part.
“I’ve never taken part in a rowing event before so in preparation I’ve got some decent gloves to hold on to the oars!”
Colleague Esther Ingle said: “I regularly train in a gym which use static rowers as part of the programmed classes, so hopefully I have enough strength to row hard enough for the duration of the challenge.
“I have my gloves for hand protection and a towel to sit on, I’m not sure the wooden seats will be very comfortable for over two hours of rowing.”
Simon Firth added: “I haven’t taken part in a rowing event before, I’ve been told that good gloves are key and a positive attitude!”
