2 Sisters Food Group shop steward started work at processing factory in Coupar Angus 50 years ago aged 15

Britain’s biggest chicken processor has celebrated with one of its most loyal colleagues who has achieved an amazing 50-year milestone working at the same factory.

Christine Murie, a process operative and shop steward at the 2 Sisters factory in Coupar Angus, Perthshire, celebrated her 50 years of service on 7th August.

Christine and Friends

She is the first person at Coupar to ever have achieved 50 years’ service and the site celebrated by hosting a party with guests including past and present colleagues.

Joining when she was just 15 years old, she started in the wet department trussing the chickens. Over the years her roles have changed, moving into ‘Cuts’ where she was a chargehand to her current role in ‘Wholebirds’ where she now has the additional responsibility as a shop steward.

And loyal Christine certainly likes to keep it in the family. She and her husband Keith’s eyes met over a chicken leg way back in 1972. Keith retired two years ago after 44 years’ service.

Christine said: “I’ve seen many changes over the years. Back in the day on a Friday all the ladies used to work on the line in their hair rollers and make up on ready for a night out in Dundee.

"I really enjoy working at Coupar Angus, it’s a fantastic place to work and I have made so many friends over the years. I just love coming to work every day, and I haven’t got plans to retire yet.”

Nicola Ballantyne, HR manager, said: “Christine is a great colleague. In her role as shop steward she has helped many colleagues with their issues and has always been really supportive.  We hope Christine will continue working at Coupar Angus for many years to come.”
