Our History

1993

The birth of 2 Sisters Food Group. Ranjit Singh Boparan started out with cutting and packing frozen retail portions in West Bromwich. At this point the company turned over £6m.

2000

Sites at Scunthorpe and Flixton were acquired. These were significant as it meant the group would move from a poultry meat cutting operation to a primary producer.

2005

A new cutting facility was built in West Bromwich- Site D

2008

The group bought Devon poultry from Lloyd Maunder, this is our Willand site.

2010

The group announced the acquisition of Dutch based chicken processor Storteboom Group with facilities in the Netherlands and Poland.

2011

January The Group announced it was to buy Northern Foods PLC.

March 2 Sisters opened a new Added Value chicken facility in Thetford.

December 2 Sisters bought RF Brookes chilled foods, known as our Rogerstone site.

2013

The group acquired the UK arm of Dutch poultry company Vion. This included our sites in Coupar Angus and Sandycroft.

2014

The group leads the food sector on the Campylobacter fight with a £10 Million investment plan.

2015

April The group announces commitment to removing from their poultry all antibiotics defined by WHO as being of the highest priority critically important to human health. July Ranjit Singh is awarded an honorary degree from Nottingham Trent University

2016

The group announced a £45 million upgrade to create the world’s most advanced processing plant at the site in Scunthorpe.

2017

The group announced a £10 million investment in new technology and innovation at Rogerstone, the biggest prepared meals facility in Europe.

2018

February Ranjit Singh Boparan steps up into the position of President of Boparan Holdings Ltd June Ronald Kers is appointed CEO

2019

April Introduced our Finance Graduate Programme. Over three years the business gives graduates exposure to people at all different levels within the business, they are given real projects and are empowered to make real decisions. May Major investment and footprint changes in our UK Poultry division.

2020

January Richard Pennycook joins 2 Sisters as Non-Executive Chairman April 2 Sisters help heroes in coronavirus lockdown. As well as helping to feed the nation, businesses from across the wider Group ensured that NHS Trusts up and down the country, as well as food banks and other charitable groups, were supplied with food during the national crisis. November 2 Sisters targets further growth opportunities following the successful refinancing of business. Parent company Boparan Holdings Ltd issues new £475m Bond due to mature in 2025.

2021

April We become a strategic partner with Meat Business Women to champion the promotion and contribution of women in the industry. June An extensive investment led to a substantial upgrade at 2 Sisters Food Group’s Gunstones Bakery and enabled a successful automation project in the ‘Bake 4’ factory. June Our UK Poultry site in Sandycroft, in collaboration with Coleg Cambria, announced a commitment to boost employment and skills in the Flintshire region by offering opportunities for up to 60 new Apprentices. July A £7.5m investment in new technology and upgrades at our UK Poultry site in Sandycroft creates more than 200 new jobs. October President Ranjit Singh Boparan explained to media how high inflation combined with the continuing lack of labour will ultimately result in higher prices for food November 2 Sisters signs up to the new UK Soy Manifesto.

2022

April Our Meal Solutions sites celebrate their RoSPA Awards - internationally-recognised awards for demonstrating high health and safety standards. May Scunthorpes’ UK Poultry team are presented with the ‘Recognising Exemplary Practice to Protect the Workforce from Covid-19’ award at the North Lincolnshire Healthy Workplace Awards. October We announce a significant milestone in the history of our poultry operations with more than 2 million birds processed every week meeting higher welfare standards, known as the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC).
