Marathon effort raises £140,000 for charities

29 April 2025

A whopping £140,000 has been raised for four charities across the UK and abroad thanks to the marathon efforts of entrepreneur Ranjit Singh.

Ranjit, the President of Boparan Holdings Ltd and owner of 2 Sisters Food Group, joined a record-breaking number of participants – more than 56,000 - in the world-famous London Marathon on Sunday.

First-time entrant Ranjit completed the course in the face of rising temperatures in London on the day, and has raised the substantial amount thanks to the generosity of friends, colleagues, customers and suppliers.

The money raised will be split between four charities close to his heart:

•        British Heart Foundation: Fighting heart disease and funding life-saving research.

•        The Boparan Charitable Trust: Supporting children with disabilities, life-limiting conditions, and those in extreme poverty.

•        Martins Hospice: Providing compassionate end-of-life care and support for families.

•        Assist Resettlement & Renaissance: Aiming to relieve poverty among innocent victims of war in Sri Lanka by improving their livelihoods.

Ranjit said: “This was my first full marathon and the challenge was not just about crossing the finish line, it was about making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most. Every donation, big or small, will help these charities continue their vital work.

“I’d like to thank everybody for supporting me, it really helped to spur me on.

“It was really warm on the day and it was a very tough course, but I was determined to see it through.”

Ranjit’s charity page is active and well-wishers can still make a contribution to boost funds further:
