Health, Safety and Environment Officer

David Wilson

When the building trade was hit by the recession in 2007, David found himself unemployed for quite some time.

In 2012 he joined 2 Sisters via an agency as a general operative working in different parts of the factory. Within the year David was promoted to team leader.

Realising he needed to gain some experience with computers, David’s next role was as a Technical administrator and he learnt how to use Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

His next opportunity arose in the NPD department as a process technologist. Having worked in kitchens during college and having a passion for food, David really enjoyed this role which involved training staff how to make the recipes and commissioning new kit.

Roll on two years and Scunthorpe were looking for an administrator in Health and Safety. David had experience of H&S in the building trade and knew the processes. Since being in this role he has completed his NEBOSH, which was one day a week studying at college for 16 weeks, and he is currently deciding what he will study next.

David said: “It’s a general certificate covering all aspects of safety. I’ve got the legislative knowledge but there was site specific stuff I didn’t know about.

“There are challenges in the day-to-day job however I enjoy doing my best and making sure everyone goes home in one piece. We’re a small but approachable team.”

“Health and Safety is top of the agenda for all of the members of the SMT, they have their own personal Health and Safety responsibilities which they sign off. Our team are here to advise and develop the processes and procedures.”
