Age UK Manchester has been crowned the winner of a region-wide competition to receive a canteen kit out as part of Holland’s Pies’ Hunger Busters campaign.
PIE TIME: the volunteers at Age UK Manchester celebrate the news.
Following research* that revealed that only 38% of North West residents take a regular lunch break due to lack of time and facilities, the North’s favourite baker, Holland’s, launched the Hunger Busters competition offering worthy causes across the North West the opportunity to update their canteen and fill it with a stash of Holland’s Pies’ new Micro 2 Go® slices.
Age UK Manchester delivers numerous impactful services from its Crossacres Community Resource Centre, including day car, home care, clubs and a Community Café. The charity was shortlisted alongside three other groups in a public vote which closed on Thursday (16th February). Age UK Manchester’s entry really showcased its great work to provide support for the elderly, making it more than worthy of a place on the Hunger Busters shortlist, and the ultimate winners of the competition.
Age UK Manchester will now be the proud recipients of a brand new fridge, microwave and a stash of Holland’s brand new Micro 2 Go® slices after receiving over 500 votes through the company’s Facebook page. Offering a place to store and cook food, and with Holland’s slices taking just 90 seconds to heat, the prize will ensure that the team at Age UK Manchester enjoy the new additions to its café with the added bonus of having tasty treats to hand for its service users.
Kim Hyde from Age UK Manchester said: “We’re delighted that so many people voted for us – it was a privilege to have been shortlisted, particularly alongside so many other worthy causes. We can’t wait to receive our new canteen kit out and the delicious slices which our service users will enjoy hugely. Thank you.”
Leanne Holcroft, Brand Manager at Holland’s Pies, said: “We’re thrilled to be giving this prize to such a worthy cause – the number of votes Age UK Manchester received through our Facebook page is just testament to the fantastic work that they do in their community and how deserving they are. We can’t wait to see their new kit out in situ! We also want to thank the other fantastic shortlisted entries and commend them for all the hard work they put into their Hunger Busters applications.”
