Opportunities for our next generation

21 November 2016

The fragrant smell of Christmas pudding combined with the shrill of excited teenagers dominated our stand at the Skills Show as they queued for a selfie with Fox’s biscuits’ legend Vinnie and the opportunity to win a goodie bag.

Promoted as the nation’s largest skills and career event, it offered young people the opportunity to obtain career advice and the chance to meet top employers like 2 Sisters Food Group.

Jared Massey, head of resourcing at 2 Sisters said: “We had three fantastic days at the NEC and the young people have shown a real interest in 2 Sisters and the new apprenticeships.”

The take home message on the stand, which was hosted by The National Skills Academy for Food and Drink, was the variety of career opportunities that exist in the food and drink sector.

Jenni Chambers, head of talent at 2 Sisters said: “Young people often don’t see the food industry as their first choice for a career. We’ve spoken to lots that have no idea what they want to do after school and others that were very focused and came prepared with lots of questions about a career in food.

“The combination of food tastings and the career maps provided a great opportunity to engage with the next generation and talk about the dozens of jobs available across the different disciplines from marketing to engineering, finance to new product development.”
