Learning and Development facilitator for UK Poultry and Added Value
Iain found work at 2 Sisters in Scunthorpe after being made redundant as a personal banking advisor at Abbey National bank.
Desperate to work, he started his first 12- hour Saturday shift as an agency worker wiping tomato sauce off trays.
Determined to make a go of things, his first aim was to become a team leader.
Iain said: “I got my head down and watched what other people were doing.”
He became a team leader in Added Value, then a senior team leader in the DSI room, which led to working in Thetford for a while, before becoming a section leader in the cutting hall for four years.
When the new cutting hall was opened, Iain was senior section leader and stand in shift manager, and it was at this time he bumped into John Degg, Head of Learning and Development for UK Poultry.
John had some vacancies in Learning and Development, he wanted to bridge the gap between the classroom and the line, and Iain was the ideal person for the role.
Iain has now worked in L&D for two years and during that time has introduced a permanent shopfloor induction, a salaried induction, REFRESH, Butchery Academy and Front Line Manager development training.
Iain said: “It’s been a steep but fun learning curve. I was given an opportunity at 2 Sisters, progressed and now I’ve got the house I’ve always wanted for my family.”
Hard work and ambition has paid off for Iain.
